Mt.Takao
- Hiking to Mt. Takao
Mt. Takao, 599m high, locates in the western part of Tokyo. It takes about 70 minutes from Shinjuku by public transportation. The mountain has a variety of hiking courses from the bottom to the top. Each hiker selects the most suitable routes to climb or walk to the mountain top including the cable car or the lift, depending on his or her physical condition.
If you would like to have a little bit long trekking, there are many trekking routes further.
Mt. Takao has a lot of natural resources such as animals (deer, monkey etc.) & flowers. Yakuoin temple is the secret Buddhism temple for Japanese mountain ascetics, monsters called Tengu. The temple now offers a Shojin Ryori, authentic vegetarian dishes whose ingredients are produced locally to the visitors.

Okutama
- A day in Okutama
The mountainous region of Okutama locates in the western Tokyo and is conveniently accessed from central Tokyo by train in 2 hours or less. This region is a part of Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park. So there are mountains and forests around and it is very important region for providing water to the people in Tokyo.
Visitors could enjoy a peace and quiet day in the forest or doing a lot of outdoor activities, such as trekking, hiking, fishing, sap or canoe or forest therapy.
While you will walk in the forest, you could have a chance to meet wild animals or insects such as monkey or deer as well as seeing beautiful flowers or plants in each season.

Mt.Mitake
- Mt Mitake
Mt. Mitake, 929 meters high, locates in the Okutama region and its high. On the top of the mountain, there is the Musashi Mitake Shrine which is known as an important place for mountain worship. You could stay in the temple lodge overnight there.
From the halfway up the mountain, you could walk or take the cable car round trip or one way to the top station situated at an altitude of 831 meters.
